SUNGUDI  SAREES

SUNGUDI SAREES are made here in a traditional way by sourashtra people who have migrated from Gujarat to Tamil Nadu and we were welcomed here by Nayak dynasty around 16th century. The traditional Indian sungudi sarees are 100% cotton which are tie and dyed by a way of natural colors where the saree is having dots and many designs with different colors in the borders and it measures 48 inchs . It takes nearly 10 to 15 days to make a traditional sungudi saree. The sungudi sarees have been around for more than 100 years.

At present sungudi sarees have become very fashionable and looking very attractive for ladies & admired by younger generations. Sungudi sarees are loved by a lot of people who are not just in Madurai but also by other people who are from different origin and it attracts foreign people also. Sungudi sarees are exported to other cities and it earns major economy in Madurai textile industry.

Especially summer is the best time for wearing sungudi sarees. In our climate, doctors have advised that it is the best to wear cotton sungudi sarees through out the year.
